About

This is me, strapping my rollerblades in the middle of winter. I was making a 450 km journey from the most eastern point to the most western point in the Netherlands. On rollerblades.

In 2008 I graduated as graphic designer, but felt a need to travel. So in the summer of this year I started traveling by bus, train and by hitchhiking all with a newly bought backpack. After this year I started studying pop culture to learn about filmmaking, writing and concepting. But my backpack was aching, and so after one year of study I decided to travel again, this time to Bulgaria. In the end of that gap year something special happened. I bought a bicycle and traveled 900 kilometers trough Sweden.

After the cycling trip ( sold the bike to a guy in a wheelchair) I went back to school again and came to the conclusion that it would be possible to combine my love for traveling with my education. I came up with a project to cycle from Budapest, HU to my hometown: Scheemda, NL. This is when I found my call. Making self supported journeys and making films about them.

Since then I’ve made a  journeys, films and wrote articles about my experiences. Next to this I give talks on schools, festivals and gatherings about the art of adventurous travel, tips ‘n tricks on backpacking and more. I’m happy to share experiences with you and others, just send me an email or contact me trough facebook.

Last year I’ve started the Groninger Adventure Community and organized the Groninger Adventure Night; a evening of talks, films and inspiration by adventure minded people, for adventure minded people. More are surely to come.

I also do programming for film festivals, for example for the Rough Conditions Adventure Film Festival in Herne, Germany. In the beginning of 2016 I will co-host the International Cycling Film Festival in Groningen.

All these things happened over the years, but my backpack from 2008 is still calling for adventure.

    • Hey Marin, thanks voor je berichtje! Ik heb Arjen zn page even bekeken, toffe tocht hoor.

      Groeten,
      Erwin

  4. Hi Erwin

It’s Léo from the big international cycle-touring festival in Paris. If you don’t know of it, there’s a little video here that explains who we are. The second part is about the festival. It’s also on the Wereldfietser site in Holland, or it was the last time I looked!

I’ve seen your lovely film on Vimeo about the hidden wall, an unusual idea and an unusual approach, and I wondered if you’d like to propose one for the festival. I don’t think we’ve ever had a film in Dutch.

If all goes well, we’ll invite you both to Paris, fares paid of course and accommodation found, and we’ll show your film and invite you up on stage with an interpreter to answer questions.

Does the idea interest you? I hope so.

    happy days

    léo
